San Pedro has, no doubt, the most economy hotels on the Lake, and perhaps in all of Guatemala. A town eager to bring in tourists of any stripe, San Pedro offers stays of $2 a night or less, allowing many to take Spanish, or just loaf around, for months on end. Nonetheless, other higher-priced (!) economy hotels offer a wide variety of amenities, and an ambience that is not to be missed.

The Hotel Villa Cuba is a somewhat remote hotel in San Pedro, located down the road and away from most of San Pedro's already-slipshod development. Originally a large family home, the place has cable TV, private baths, private parking, and a great view of the volcano. It's not the ideal place for those looking to indulge in San Pedro's nightlife, but its inaccessiblity can also mean an incredibly relaxing stay on one of the world's most beautiful lakes. Rates fluctuate from $7-12/night Visit their website. CONTACT: Carretera a la Finca, Sector Tzantziapa, Zona 3, San Pedro La Laguna Tel: (502) 7959-5044 email:
